UFC 309: Jones v Miocic - Official Weigh-in

Jon Jones will give up a few pounds to Stipe Miocic when they finally step into the cage UFC 309.

At Friday’s official-weigh-ins for the upcoming event in New York City, Jones weighed in at 237.6 pounds, 11 pounds lighter than Miocic, who came in at 248.6. Jones defends his heavyweight title for the first time when he Miocic in Saturday’s headlining bout. The two were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 295 in November 2023, but Jones was forced to withdraw due to a pectoral injury.

Waiting in the wings is interim champion Tom Aspinall. The British heavyweight stepped the scale as a backup and was registered at 254.8 pounds. He is officially eligible to step in for either Jones or Miocic should either man be unable to compete on fight night.

For comparison’s sake, Jones weighed in at 248 pounds for his UFC heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane in March 2023. He was slightly heavier than Gane, who weighed in at 247.5.

In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler meet in a lightweight rematch. Both successfully weighed in at 155.6 pounds. Their first meeting at UFC 262 in May 2021 was a thrilling back-and-forth contest that ended with Oliveira defeating Chandler by second-round TKO to claim a vacant lightweight title.

Of the 13 fights on the card, only one saw a fighter miss weight. James Llontop came in at 166.2 pounds, 1.2 pounds over a contracted 165-pound catchweight limit. The Peruvian fighter steps in to face Maurici Ruffy on two weeks’ notice as a replacement for Charlie Campbell.

It is not yet known if Ruffy vs. Llontop will proceed at a new catchweight and, if so, what purse penalty Llontop could face.
