Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas were on point for the UFC’s first headliner of 2025, but Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 101 were not without complications.
Saturday’s main event between Dern and Ribas is official, with the strawweight contenders both tipping the scale at 116 pounds, making use of the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight. This bout is a rematch of their October 2019 encounter, which Ribas won by unanimous decision.
Two preliminary fighters were tripped up by the scale.
Jose Johnson, a towering 6-foot tall flyweight, came in at 128.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the limit in his second appearance in the division after dropping down from bantamweight. He successfully came in at 126 pounds for a fight with Asu Almabayev this past June, but went on to lose to Almabayev via unanimous decision.
The other fighter to miss weight was Ihor Potieria, who changed divisions in 2024. Potieria came in heavy at 188 pounds, two pounds over the middleweight limit. Last year, Potieria moved down from light heavyweight and was booked for a trio of 185-pound bouts. In his division debut, he missed weight by 1.5 pounds for a fight with Robert Bryczek. Potieria defeated Bryzcek, then went on to lose back-to-back fights to Michel Pereira and Cesar Almeida.
It is not yet known if Johnson and Potieria’s respective bouts with Felipe Bunes and Marco Tulio will proceed as scheduled and, if so, what percentage of their purses will be forfeited as penalty.
