Around 8:47 p.m., several Clark County Fire Department Units responded to reports of a fire at 2777 South Las Vegas Blvd. According to a statement from the department, it was caused by an overheated motor in an electric room heater.

The flames did not spread beyond the room.

While firefighters fought the blaze, guests were temporarily evacuated to the resort’s empty BleauLive Theater.

One guest was treated for shortness of breath from running down the stairs. They were treated at the scene and released.

Unpleasant Reminders

The Fontainebleau fire occurred 44 years and 10 days after the MGM Grand hotel fire killed 86 people on November 21, 1980. Contrary to popular belief, however, it was not that tragedy that caused Las Vegas to add sprinklers to all guests rooms on the Strip.

The Fontainebleau was also the scene of a rooftop fire in July 22, 2023, five months before it opened. More than 90 firefighters in 12 fire engines quickly doused that blaze, the smoke from which could be seen for miles.
