‘Shavkat is indeed a beast’: Fighters react to Shavkat Rakhmonov beating Ian Machado Garry at UFC 310

Shakvat Rakhmonov is still undefeated, even if he hasn’t exactly captured the imaginations of his fellow fighters.

In the co-main event of UFC 310 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Rakhmonov gutted out a five-round decision win over the previously unbeaten Ian Machado Garry. The bout was high in technique and intensity, though light on truly impactful moments for each fighter. Rakhmonov’s power in the standup and wrestling pressure served him well, but Garry almost stole the fight in the fifth round with a daring rear-naked choke attempt.

After 25 minutes, all three judges saw the fight 48-47 in Rakhmonov’s favor.

While many of the fighters chiming in on social media applauded Rakhmonov and Garry for the hard-fought contest, it wasn’t all positivity, especially when Rakhmonov called for UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad to enter the cage for an impromptu faceoff. The respectful meeting left those watching a little cold, which might not bode well for the future title fight’s box office prospects.
