Jon Jones has been firing out tweets at will over the past couple of days, and one of them expressed interest in a long talked about matchup with former UFC heavyweight champ, and current PFL SuperFight titleholder Francis Ngannou,

Ngannou’s head coach Eric Nicksick recently said that he believes Ngannou would ‘100 percent’ entertain a return to the UFC in the future. After feeling mistreated and undervalued by the UFC as heavyweight champ, Ngannou vacated the belt and made the choice to sign with PFL as a fighter, as well as an ambassador for the PFL Africa. Jones went on to win the UFC title, while Ngannou has made millions of dollars competing in the boxing ring, as well as the PFL cage.

On Friday, Jones tweeted how a matchup with Ngannou would fire him up to compete again — unlike a bout against interim champ Tom Aspinall. Less than 24 hours later, Ngannou responded.

“You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally find out who’s the KING OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT,” Ngannou wrote on Twitter.

Jones and Ngannou asked for the matchup to be made multiple times after the former made the decision to vacate the UFC light heavyweight title in a move to heavyweight. The bout never materialized, as UFC CEO Dana White said Jones wanted “Deontay Wilder money” in order for the fight to take place.

Subsequently, White has said on multiple occasions that he has no interest in working with Ngannou again, while PFL founder Donn Davis has said that he’d love to make the fight between Jones and Ngannou happen in a co-promotion with the UFC.

Jones recently defended his title for the first time against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 this past November, while Ngannou competed a month prior in his PFL debut, destroying Renan Ferreira with a first-round TKO win.
