B.J. Penn

For the fourth time in less than two weeks, UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn was arrested and taken into custody by police in Hawaii.

A news release from Hawaii Police states Penn was arrested Thursday after officers learned the 46-year-old fighter “had entered within a residence, violating the terms of a temporary restraining order in which Penn is the respondent.”

Police say, “Penn was located within the area and arrested without incident. He was processed at the Hilo Police station and released after posting $3,000 bail.”

Penn is due back in court Friday at 11:30 a.m. local time.

While police didn’t state specifically who was involved in the temporary restraining order, Penn’s mother Lorraine Shin recently had a protective order approved and extended by a judge, barring him from the residence he shared with her in Hawaii. As part of the protective order, Penn also has to stay at least 100 feet away from Shin at all times and 100 yards away from her residence or place of employment.

The temporary restraining order was approved after Penn was arrested twice for abuse of a family or household member. Penn was arrested again after he failed to make an appearance in court, which was a violation of his previous bail agreement.

This fourth arrest stems directly from violating the restraining order against him.

Shin filed for the restraining order after accusing her son of “extreme psychological abuse” following troubling behavior from the former UFC champion in which he made repeated claims that his entire family had been murdered and replaced with imposters.

In her statement to police, Shin stated she believed her son was suffering from “Capgras delusional syndrome,” a condition in which a person holds a delusion that a friend, spouse, parent or other close family member has been replaced by an identical imposter.

A judge recently extended the restraining order until at least Nov. 23 with Penn already expected back in court on June 24. He is set to appear before a judge again Friday for violating the restraining order.
