Gregory Rodrigues delivered a highlight reel knockout to return to the win column after flatlining Jack Hermansson in the first round at UFC 317.
After several back-and-forth exchanges on the feet, Rodrigues stepped into a combination but it was a perfectly timed left hook that twisted Hermansson’s head around and sent him crashing to the canvas in a heap. The only unfortunate part about the knockout was Hermansson following up with an unnecessary hammer fist but referee Herb Dean was also in a bad position to get in there quick enough to stop the fight despite the obvious finish.
It was still an incredibly impressive performance from Rodrigues with the knockout coming at 4:21 in the first round.

“For my last fight, I learned a lot about patience,” Rodrigues said after falling to Jared Cannonier in his previous outing. “Last fight, I learned a little bit more about myself. We’re just going to keep going. One result don’t tell who you are.
“I’m not coming for the knockout. I would fight the three rounds but the knockout is the bonus.”
While Rodrigues showed good power throughout, Hermansson actually managed to cut him up with a couple of solid punches early that had blood flowing across the Brazilian’s face. Still, Rodrigues was constantly setting up his biggest punches but ensuring he didn’t overextend himself to get caught with a counter.
Once he had Hermansson’s timing down, Rodrigues was waiting for his opening and that’s when he lunged forward with the left hook that ended Hermansson’s night in dramatic fashion. Hermansson actually stayed down on the canvas for several moments afterwards but thankfully he was able to leave the octagon on his own power.
The win moves Rodrigues to 4-1 in his past five fights with three of the four victories coming by way of knockout.
