Former UFC contender Molly McCann signs with Matchroom Boxing

Molly McCann is set to step into the boxing ring.

Matchroom Boxing announced Thursday that the former UFC flyweight contender has been signed to the promotion, with an opponent and debut date still to be determined.

“She’s officially signed with Matchroom Boxing,” Hearn said. “Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer, about time I’d like to say as well. Former [Amateur Boxing Association] champion. Everyone knows the ability as a boxer, obviously been a massive star within the UFC. Built a profile globally as well and we’re delighted to start the journey with her.”

McCann, 35, announced her retirement from MMA competition this past March following a first-round submission loss to Alexia Thainara. Competing at flyweight and later strawweight, “Meatball” had a memorable MMA career, capturing the inaugural Cage Warriors 125-pound title in 2018 before making a jump to the UFC.

Inside the octagon, McCann had mixed results, authoring several highlight-reel knockouts, establishing herself as a star in her native England, and putting herself on the cusp of title contention with a 6-2 run from 2019-2022. A 1-4 slump (with three of those losses coming by way of first-round submission) signaled the end of her UFC run.
