Daniel Cormier is clearing the air in regards to Jon Jones.

During a segment on the UFC 318 Weigh-In Show, Cormier was asked about where he would like to fight his “enemy” if he could, and the former two-division champ said that he’d like to do it at his house because “I kind of want the ability to kill him.”

Jones, in a pair of deleted tweets, responded by saying he’s “buried” Cormier in the octagon twice, owns a “mansion” in Cormier’s head, and that the Jones “ass whoopings” to Cormier in their two fights were the most “painful things to happen” in his rival’s life.

Cormier said he never mentioned Jones’ name, so he doesn’t understand why Jones responded the way he did.

“Obviously when you’re dealing with someone like this, it immediately sparks him,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “[Jones tweeted his response], not true. I never said I wanted to kill him at my house. …

“A lot of behaviors lately have a lot of people laughing about him, and not with him. … [Jones tweets again about me], a lot to unpack there. One, I do a job where I talk about the biggest things in the sport. So I can’t omit that in talking about Jon Jones because of our history. No, actually, because of our history, people want my take on what’s happening with Jon Jones more than anybody. So I give my take as a part of my job. …

“I can’t let a person in my head that at this point in my life there’s nothing we can do about it. We ain’t fighting no more. There’s nothing we can do.”

After Cormier gave his answer on the show, host Dan Hellie asked if the person’s name rhymed with something that sounded like Jones’ name. Cormier laughed about it, but still didn’t say Jones’ name.

In fact, Cormier says he’s asked a lot of “offbeat” questions on that show, and he often gives offbeat answers — including this one. But it was the most “painful” comment from Jones’ tweets that really had Cormier puzzled.

“Only an insecure person would go, immediately, that ‘he’s talking about me,’” Cormier explained. “No, maybe I wasn’t. But maybe I was. You don’t know. But again, I didn’t say a name on purpose. …

“It sucked to lose. and it hurt a lot more in 2017. It doesn’t hurt today. That’s eight years past. I’m not stuck on that. Also, you can’t say that you’re the most painful thing that’s happened in a person’s life when they’ve lost a child. That’s the craziest thing in the world, … their father got murdered. He knows that, but you’re dealing with a different type of human being.”

Jones recently retired from the sport and the UFC finally promoted Tom Aspinall to undisputed champion as the division can start to move forward. Now that the promotion is discussing a possible card at the White House, Jones says he’s back in the drug testing pool, although there hasn’t been a record of him being tested since saying he’s coming back.

Because of the career flip-flopping, and what Jones has meant to the sport, Cormier is going to continue to talk about him.

“I’m only talking about what is the news now, and also how stupid he is,” Cormier said. “He just really is not the smartest person, and once again it’s proven. …

“When does this end? Like, can this end, guys? Like, when does this end?”
