Shopify Rebellion has announced its departure from competitive Dota 2, effective immediately, after a two-and-a-half-year run. In addition to this, all current roster members are now allowed to explore new opportunities as free agents.

“I hope they all find great new homes and continue to shine, bringing their incredible talent and dedication to new teams,” said Shopify Rebellion CEO Dario TLO Wünsch.

The Canadian organisation announced its Dota 2 entry in 2022 and, since then, it has achieved promising results in qualifiers on multiple occasions.

However, it failed to achieve the goal of defeating the best teams out there, which led to the decision of leaving the scene entirely.

The team has played The International North America Closed Qualifiers twice, finishing second in both editions, and made an appearance in The International 2023 as well.

“I know being a Rebellion Dota fan wasn’t easy. The heartbreak you felt, cheering us on, I can assure you was mirrored by what we felt,” Wünsch added.

“We found ourselves in so many promising positions, countless times on the cusp of a deep tournament run, only to have our hopes slip through our fingers, again and again.”

Shopify Rebellion’s Future in Esports

That said, the CEO has announced that he will continue to keep an eye on Dota 2 and Shopify Rebellion might return to the title in the future.

“I am confident this is a ‘see you soon’ rather than a goodbye. While we take our hiatus, I’ll always keep an eye on Dota. For now, you can bet I’ll be right there with you, cheering on my favourite players as a fan during TI,” he said.

Moving forward, Shopify Rebellion will continue to have active rosters across multiple other esports titles such as VALORANT, Rocket League, League of Legends and many more.
