American Rocket League content creator Jared ‘SunlessKhan‘ Zook has announced plans to launch a new tournament called the Rocket League Battle Series (RLBS).
The RLBS will be an invite-only, 2v2 franchised competition that condenses an entire season into a single weekend, with matches compiled into one YouTube video showcasing the gameplay and key highlights.
There will be a total of eight themed franchises for the league: Clowns, Generals, Team of Bronzes, Painkillers, Goblins, Philosophers, Divorced Dads and Natural Disasters. Each franchise will have two player slots, and each participant will either select or be assigned a character.
Despite the event focusing on the entertainment aspect, the league still aims to be competitive as players are required to be at or near Supersonic Legend (SSL) or have previously reached these ranks in the past.
Rocket League Battle Series (RLBS) Format and Details
The league’s format will feature three-minute matches, with 14 games scheduled on both Friday and Saturday, with playoffs and the final taking place on Sunday.
According to the sign-up form, players will remain anonymous with no voice chat but will be able to type their ‘characters’ opinions’ through the in-game chat. The goal is to have short and competitive games with trash talk being encouraged for entertainment purposes.
The RLBS was announced shortly after game publisher Psyonix introduced new administrative controls that could streamline match management for tournament organisers in Rocket League’s latest patch 2.54.
The update allows private match hosts to pause games, modify time and score, and the ability to restart play from kickoff. Ultiamtly, this provides more flexibility during competitive play and the necessary tools to manage events.
