FanDuel, DraftKings, and Circa Sports were presented to the Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) on Wednesday as the companies vie for licenses that will provide mobile betting apps throughout the state.
This battle comes after Missouri voters narrowly approved legal sports betting in November 2024. As a result, legalised sports betting fully launches on December 1st, 2025.
The state’s initial mobile sports betting will be shaped by the MGC’s decision, which is anticipated on Friday.
Each business presented its case using a number of standards outlined in Amendment 2 of the Missouri Constitution. These include knowledge, honesty, prior experience, advertising strategies, and the capacity to bring in state funds.
The companies also emphasised a dedication to responsible gaming and the potential to grow the number of bettors on their platforms.
How Sports Betting Revenue Will Flow in Missouri
Missouri will impose a 10% tax on all proceeds from sports betting under Amendment Two.
Any reasonable costs incurred by the Missouri Gaming Commission that are not already paid for by license fees will be covered by the first part of this tax.
Following the payment of those costs, the state will contribute $5m (~£3.6m) or 10% of the remaining wagering tax revenue, whichever is higher, to the Compulsive Gaming Prevention Fund.
Programmes and projects targeted at tackling problem gambling in the state are the focus of this fund.
The law mandates that Missouri’s elementary, secondary and higher education institutions receive the remaining tax revenue. This pledge to fund education was a major selling point for voters throughout the state during the effort to legalize sports betting.
