Unlike the wild west of Super Smash Bros. tournaments, 2XKO will have a competitive scene supported by Riot Games. And that means there will be some competitive guidelines for tournament organisers to follow.

Earlier on August 20th, Riot revealed the official guidelines that tournament organisers must follow if they want to host 2XKO competitions. These tournaments will not be part of Riot’s circuit (which will likely come later), but act as a way to get the community involved.

“We’re super grateful for the hard work of tournament organizers (TOs) everywhere, and we want this to be an easy process for anyone who’s interested in getting involved,” Riot wrote in its official blog post.

Tournament orgnaisers from the community are encouraged to run 2XKO tournaments and won’t need to apply for approval. Instead, they simply need to follow Riot’s guidelines, using the official assets provided.

Riot Encourages Community 2XKO Tournaments

According to Riot, 2XKO tournaments can be any scale, whether it’s the equivalent of a fighting game major (like adding it to the lineup at events like Get On My Level) or a casual local. It can be in-person or online, and feature singles, duos, or mixed brackets.

TOs are allowed to require a registration fee in order to provide ‘financial sustainability’ and there will be no limits on prizing or sponsorships. However, there are certain types of sponsors that are not allowed, including gambling and casinos, firearms, alcohol, pornography, cryptocurrency and political campaigns.

A community asset kit was also provided to give TOs promotional material. However, tournament organisers cannot imply that Riot or its 2XKO team is directly involved in the event. While 2XKO images can be used, the Riot logo cannot.

The tournaments can be streamed on any platform, just not traditional television channels. Riot will have full permission to ‘show off’ the tournament to showcase the 2XKO community, whether it’s sharing highlights or event footage. Events that want Riot to have full visibility of the event can fill out this form.
