Porsche has launched the third season of Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge GB, an entry competition to professional sim racing.

Created in partnership with Motorsport UK Esports, the drivers will be racing for the opportunity of a driving experience day at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone, driving road-ready versions of the Porsche 911 and 718 Cayman.

Starting on September 23rd and the following five weeks, the Esports Sprint Challenge GB will create the racing competition used by Esports Carrera Cup GB, Carrera Cup GB, and the Sprint Challenge GB.

According to a release, the drivers will be split into two categories, Pro and Am, racing over 10 races on the iRacing simulation platform, driving Porsche 911 GT3 Cup or Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR. Each event will include a one-hour practice session, a 10-minute Qualifying session, and two 30-minute races.

The top three drivers in the Pro category will get automatic qualification to the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup, marking a direct path to professional sim racing. The top three drivers in the Am category, instead, will be promoted to the Pro category for the following season of the Esports Sprint Challenge GB.

Drivers can sign up for the competition via the Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge landing page, but will be required to have a Motorsport UK Esports membership. Additionally, drivers who have previously qualified for Porsche’s other official iRacing series will not be eligible to compete.

The Esports Sprint Challenge GB will be broadcast on the official Porsche Twitch channel and the Race Spot TV YouTube channel with dedicated stewarding post-race.

Porsche’s presence in the esports space

Aside from esports competition, the automotive company has been increasingly investing in sim racing.

The team first marked its presence by partnering with Coanda Esports in May 2022 to form the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team.

Earlier this year, the company unveiled the Porsche Esports Performance Center (PEPC) in Cologne, Germany, a dedicated sim racing facility.

The team has recently finished in fourth place at the Rennsport R1 competition during the Esports World Cup, bringing home a prize pool of $40,000 (~£29,685). Previously, Porsche had also partnered with the likes of FaZe Clan and the Overwatch Championship Series.
