A new Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) update has introduced ‘various improvements’ to subtick shooting consistency, as Valve continues to optimise its first-person shooter title.

Subtick records player actions using timestamps between the tick updates from a server, providing greater levels of precision and responsiveness during matches.

Alongside subtick changes, the September 17th 2025 update also saw the arrival of the Genesis Collection, which features 17 brand-new skins created by members of the community. Fans can obtain skins through the Genesis Uplink Terminal, which are available as a weekly drop.

Additionally, Valve has introduced a ‘JavaScript-based scripting system’ for community map creators to use. As a result, creators should have greater opportunities to produce custom content within CS2.

Other additions as part of the update include an audio update giving each grenade “unique higher-fidelity rounds for draw, inspect, pin-pull, and throw,” and the ability for players to inspect the loadout of other players while spectating.

The update is the fifth to go live in September, with Valve continuing to adjust and optimise various aspects of the title. On September 9th, the developer applied an update that applied further performance improvements when firing weapons.

In August, Valve made several adjustments to the Ancient map, removing the Temple to A Main angle along with introducing new shaders.

Community Reaction

The improved subtick should enhance the consistency of player actions during both casual and competitive matches, and is a sign of Valve continuing to optimise CS2 as the title enters its third year.

While the update won’t impact the competitive meta, it has generated plenty of debate among players who are continuing to voice their demand for an improved anti-cheat. “Wow, new skins to buy and use when playing all the cheaters?” commented one fan.

Along with anti-cheat improvements, calls for Cache to return to the Active Duty map pool continue following the recent addition of Overpass.
