G2 Esports has clinched its 17th LEC title at the 2025 Summer Finals in Madrid, marking its first championship of the year and securing EMEA’s top seed at the upcoming World Championship in China.

The LEC Summer Finals were held at the Caja Mágica over the weekend, with Riot Games reporting to Esports Insider that 17,000 fans were in attendance across all days.

Movistar KOI were undoubtedly the local favourites, drawing in the majority of the crowd, creating a sea of blue jerseys in and out of the arena. Yet it was G2 Esports that lifted the trophy among cheers.

Delivering a commanding performance on stage, G2 defeated MKOI 3–0 in the final match of the 2025 LEC Season. The series was marked by fast, decisive games, with G2’s jungler, Rudy ‘SkewMond’ Semaan, earning the Finals MVP award.

Despite narrowly missing the Rookie of the Year title to Caliste, SkewMond’s consistent plays and synergy with support Labrov were pivotal in G2’s victory, posting an impressive 84% kill participation and a 16/2/28 KDA, according to GOL.gg.

Caps Reflects on a Historic LEC Season

With today’s win, veteran midlaner Rasmus ‘Caps’ Winther celebrated his 15th LEC title with G2 Esports. While the player and his team’s names are often associated with dominance, this year — for the first time in LEC history — each split had a different champion.

While Caps attributes his team’s losses in both Winter and Spring Finals to the lack of connection between the G2 players, he pointed out how, overall, all other teams grew into valid competitors.

“I think with us underperforming a bit and doing a bit worse, I guess I just left space for everyone else to step up,” said the mid laner.

“We had three different winners, but even Fnatic was also doing very well this whole year, and they had some strong performances as well. And I mean even GIANTX, I think on stage they sometimes did a bit worse, but especially in scrims, they were taking a lot of games from us and their other top team. So it was definitely a very competitive year.”

Competitive teams come with big fan bases that cheer rosters on, even when the organisations don’t perform well. In some occasions, that courtesy and support can extend to opponents as well. Caps shared that, even though most fans were cheering for MKOI, they were welcoming and supportive of G2 when the team visited a local net café earlier in the week.

Among the thousands converging in Caja Magica, there were some fans who had the opportunity to ask Caps a question. Most were curious about the challenges of being consistently at the top of the LEC, to which Caps credited his success to strong teammates and mutual drive.

He stated: “I’ve always had very strong teammates who push me, and we push each other. I really want to win Worlds, and for that, we need to be a lot better than even the LEC teams.”
