The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) has launched a community survey to gather insight and feedback on the future of its sim racing efforts.
Motorsport’s governing body will utilise the survey results to develop its esports initiatives further.
The surveys organised by the FIA have played a role in introducing new measures designed to improve the regulatory framework, along with improving grassroots access to sim racing platforms.
In 2024, the FIA approved an esports regulatory framework, which was integrated into the International Sporting Code. The framework featured at the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games.
In addition, the governing body also issued 2,000 free 12-month iRacing subscriptions and access to the FIA F4 car valued at approximately $250,000 (~£185,906).
The aim of the FIA Esports Survey will continue to determine how the governing body shapes its esports initiatives. The results will feed to various national sporting authorities for a better understanding of what sim racers want to see in online competitions.
Results of the survey will be published before the end of the year. Participants of the survey are encouraged to leave further feedback to assist the FIA’s understanding of the sim racing ecosystem as it continues to grow.
Sim racing remains a gateway for several companies to enter esports. In August, automotive engineering firm Cosworth joined forces with iRacing, becoming the platform’s official data analysis partner.
The FIA in 2025
Throughout 2025, the FIA has continued to expand its presence within the esports industry. In August, it added an esports event to the 2025 FIA Karting World Championship to demonstrate the viability of sim racing as a pathway to real-world motorsport.
In April, it launched a global sim racing event for women and girls as part of its Girls on Track initiative, encouraging women and girls to consider pursuing a career in motorsport.
