  • Gents say they know how to work around house edge

Popular YouTube casino influencers and “The Jackpot Gents” are reporting record winnings in video poker play with a quarter of the year still to go – $53,712, through Sept. 30, to be exact.

Father-Son Team

“The Jackpot Gents” are father/son team Steve and Matt Bourie.

Steve Bourie says the key to their success is understanding where the casino has an advantage, then knowing how to calculate the house edge on video poker games and try to only play those that give the house no more than a 1.5% edge.

In a statement, the Gents pointed out how their approach contrasts sharply with the challenges faced by slot influencers, where the house edge is 10-14%, making long-term profitability more difficult.

Popular YouTube Channel

The Gents claim that their approach shows that video poker offers superior value to traditional slot machines.

Their high-volume play involves an average bet of $25 per hand, and approximately $2 million wagered annually.

“These numbers tell the real story,” said Steve Bourie. “When you’re wagering approximately $2 million per year at $25 per hand on games with such minimal house advantages, good winning streaks – which we’ve been fortunate to hit – can help skilled players become overall winners. Our multi-year results demonstrate this approach in action.”

Brian Christopher Collaboration

The Gents had two big wins of $20,000, one of which was a collaboration with Brian Christopher, the slot influencer, plus two more wins of $10,000 and $5,000 each.

“Video poker games typically have an edge of only 1 to 2% when played with optimal strategy,” said Matt Bourie. “Our results demonstrate that with sufficient volume and proper play, it’s possible to overcome that edge over time. A less than 1% loss rate over two years, followed by significant wins, validates our approach.”

The Gents contend that video poker is more a game of strategy and goes beyond blind chance, and is more for the savvy casino gambler. Their YouTube channel and website aims at educating people on why that is.

Proper Strategy

As the successful Christopher has told Casino.org in the past, what makes casino YouTube and social media content more popular with people comes down to authenticity, and that’s where The Jackpot Gents score big.

Their YouTube channel features daily real-money video poker sessions where Steve and Matt Bourie document their complete gambling journey, including victories and setbacks.

“We hope our transparent approach and long-term results continue to encourage players to consider video poker,” Matt Bourie said. “Our multi-year performance shows that with proper strategy and sufficient volume, skilled players can achieve positive results over time. With three quarters of the year behind us and such strong results, we’re very optimistic about finishing 2025 as successful winners.”
