In May, Tropicana operator Caesars Entertainment announced it would renovate the West Tower into the Solana Tower. The overhaul of all 598 guestrooms and suites is almost finished, with Tropicana now accepting reservations for stays beginning in January 2026.

This renovation represents the next chapter for Tropicana, one that reflects the vibrant energy of Atlantic City while delivering a refreshed, comfortable escape for every kind of traveler,” said Joseph Giunta, Tropicana’s senior vice president and general manager.

Drawing inspiration from the Atlantic City Boardwalk resort’s Palm Walk, the Solana Tower occupancies “blend Atlantic City charm with playful, modern touches — featuring soft wood tones, tropical patterns, curated artwork, and thoughtful details.” The rooms are designed to create a “relaxed yet refined atmosphere.”

Tropicana Details

Tropicana Atlantic City has more than 2,300 hotel rooms and suites.

The five hotel towels are accompanied by four indoor and outdoor pools, valet and self-parking, a full-service spa and salon, a fitness center, and over two dozen restaurants and bars. A 2,000-seat Broadway theater, an IMAX Theatre, a nightclub, and a retail shopping mall are among the many other non-gaming Tropicana attractions.

For gamblers, Tropicana has one of the largest gaming floors in Atlantic City with 1,600 slot machines, 100 table games, and a Caesars Sportsbook. The fifth-oldest casino in Atlantic City, Tropicana opened in November 1981 and maintains its Old Havana theme to this day.

The storied casino has seen better days.

In 2025, through September, the Tropicana’s physical casino floor won $153 million from its slot machines and table games. That’s a 1.8% year-over-year decline. Tropicana’s market share of the Atlantic City in-person gaming market in 2025 is less than 8%. Borgata is the market leader at 27.2%.

Caesars’ two other Atlantic City casinos — Caesars and Harrah’s — hold 7.2% and 8% market shares.

Before Hard Rock and Ocean opened, Tropicana’s market share in Atlantic City was around 15% in 2017 and 2018.

Refurbishment Needed

The previous Caesars’ financial woes, which led to the company being acquired by Eldorado Resorts in 2020 for $18 billion in stock and cash, resulted in underinvestment in the corporation’s Atlantic City assets. Caesars, Tropicana, Harrah’s, and Bally’s, the latter of which was sold during the reverse merger, did not receive necessary renovations and improvements as the former Caesars floundered.

In approving the Eldorado/Caesars merger, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement included a stipulation that the new organization invest at least $150 million in renovations across Harrah’s, Tropicana, and Caesars.

While Tropicana has remained a popular destination for budget travelers seeking a casino stay, its recent reviews have been less than ideal. Online reviews have suggested issues with cleanliness and outdated and worn furniture. Solana and other updates across the Tropicana property are the resort’s response to those concerns.
