- A man has been charged in yesterday’s incident at Foxwoods Resort Casino
- About two dozen police vehicles were at the tribal casino on Monday
An East Windsor man has been named in yesterday’s incident at Foxwoods Resort Casino that drew a large police response and reports of at least one woman being held against her will.

In an updated report, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department details that officers responded to the Fox Tower following a 6:27 am call about an “active disturbance” on the 16th floor.
“The caller reported that the altercation was physical in nature,” said Mashantucket Police Chief Robert Catania.
David R. Griswold, 40, of East Windsor’s Broad Brook neighborhood, roughly 45 air miles northeast of Foxwoods, was named as the alleged suspect. Griswold has been charged with two counts of criminal attempt at a first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful restraint, breach of police, interfering with police, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, and carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Griswold is facing many years in prison if convicted on all charges, most of which are felonies. Law enforcement confirms that Griswold remains in custody on a $1 million bail.
Developing Story
Casino.org was among the first to report on the significant police activity at the Connecticut tribal casino on Monday morning. Initial reports suggested that a man on the 16th floor of the Fox Tower had taken a female hostage, though that was later determined to be inaccurate.
Foxwoods officials clarified that tribal police and other nearby state and local law enforcement agencies responded to a call regarding a man holding two people against their will. A statement from the casino owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said the suspect had “unlawfully restrained two people before quickly releasing them” earlier in the morning.”
The subsequent hours-long standoff did not involve any other victims inside the hotel room. Police managed to eventually “enter the room without incident,” and took Griswold into custody.
More than two dozen police vehicles were stationed outside the Fox Tower’s main entrance until Monday afternoon. The casino and resort remained open, with only specific areas and the immediate surrounding floors of the suspect’s hotel room cordoned off.
Responding Agencies
Along with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department, which handles most law enforcement matters on the tribe’s sovereign lands, the Connecticut State Police and Ledyard Police Department responded to the incident.
A guest in a hotel room across from where the holdup occurred told Eyewitness News 3 that after hearing a loud bang a little after 6 am, he looked out his hotel room door’s peephole and witnessed “a girl crawling down the hallway in distress.” He said police were on the scene moments later, and “they came in droves.”
Others told local media that they were forced to shelter in their hotel rooms for hours while the matter played out. The two people reportedly held in the room did not suffer any major physical injuries.
