Best spooky skins to use in Fortnite this Halloween

As is the case with numerous live service games, Fortnite is a game that gets seasonal updates along with related cosmetics. Halloween is a particularly fun season in Fortnite, as tons of new content is released. From themed game modes to new skins for original characters and established characters from existing properties, there is a lot for players to engage with. 

When it comes to skins, there is a huge range of Halloween Fortnite skins to choose from, and we’re going to be looking at some of the absolute best. The annual Halloween Fortnite event is called Fornitemares, which began back in 2017. Fortnitemares 2025 is currently underway, though only for a few more days. This year’s Fortnitemares includes a bunch of fun cosmetics, such as skins for the infamous Ghost Face from the Scream film franchise and Huggy Wuggy from the Poppy Playtime video game series. 

A new Reload game map was also released with a Halloween theme, and musician Doja Cat collaborated with Epic Games to be part of the event. This included cosmetics and two skins for Doja Cat, but she was also a boss NPC called The Mother of Thorns that could be fought on the Battle Royale map.

The Teef Fortnite skin is the perfect example of how a simple design can be incredibly effective. Despite having very little to it, the skin is creepy and disturbing due to the focus on the large, crooked teeth. The pink, humanoid blob is dressed in a prison jumpsuit too, which suggests that it is a creature that has done something bad enough to land it in jail. It certainly looks like something that has committed atrocities, and this only adds to the general spookiness of the skin. 

The Dark Maw is an awesome skin in its own right, but it also works as a great Halloween skin. The dark suit of armour with the red accents is particularly cool to look at, but it’s the giant toothy mouth on the knight’s torso – featuring an outstretched, curved tongue – that makes it a spooky delight. The skin gives Elden Ring and Dark Souls vibes, with a gothic horror look that makes it stand out as one of the best spooky Halloween Fortnite skins. 

The first external character skin on our list is Jack Skellington, the infamous Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas animated film. Jack’s design is taken directly from the film, and it works well with the general Fortnite art style. Peely the banana received a new Halloween skin in the 2025 Fortnitemares event, but it’s his classic Peely Bone Fortnitemares skin that remains one of the best. Out of all of the collaborative Halloween skins that Fortnite has to offer, Billy the Puppet wins a spot on our list thanks to how well his design has been incorporated into the game. Billy is – as his name states – a puppet in the Saw horror films, so he has a handmade look to him. The Fortnite creative team managed to take this design and transform it into a viable skin in the game without changing too much about what makes Billy so iconic.  

Lexa is an original Fortnite character, and her Halloween skin – named Lexa Hexbringer– dresses her up as an autumn witch, complete with an autumnal colour palette, pumpkin motifs and a witches’ satchel. This is a Halloween skin that is more adorable than spooky, but it is undeniably one of the best Halloween skins thanks to the excellent design and the creative way that the seasonal vibes are implemented.

Huggy Wuggy’s Fortnite skin has been going viral due to how cute it is, with some arguing that he looks better in Fortnite than he does in the game he comes from (Poppy Playtime). There is no doubt that Huggy Wuggy has a cutesier look in Fortnite than he does in Poppy Playtime, even though he still has his multiple sets of sharp teeth. The Mothman is another skin that isn’t particularly scary, though he does have a somewhat unnerving look thanks to his humanoid figure combined with the moth head and giant red eyes. The animation reflects a pencil drawing outline that flickers to create a unique look, making this particularly impressive from a visual perspective. 

Willow is a great skin that combines some well-known Halloween tropes into one creative design. Willow is a wandering spirit, and this is emphasised by her design, such as her grey skin, permanent tear stains, ghostly white dress and the black tendrils that emerge from her hands and feet. What makes this unique is the alternate head, allowing players to switch between Willow’s regular head and a creepy doll head. Willow is one of the best spooky skins in Fortnite, thanks to the various creepy elements that have been implemented perfectly into her design. 

When it comes to genuinely scary skins, Big Mouth takes the top spot. Big Mouth is as close to an Eldritch horror as can be achieved in Fortnite. The character’s hoodie has been designed to look like a giant mouth, with a protruding tongue and sharp teeth decorating the hood’s edge. The skin has no face and a fleshy look to it, making it all the more unnerving. The design of Big Mouth is perfect when it comes to a spooky Halloween skin, thanks to the monstrous body horror elements.
