Kongor Studios has announced it will host the inaugural Heroes of Newerth: Reborn esports tournament.

The developer of the MOBA title has also revealed that its first global tournament will feature a $100,000 (~£75,319) prize pool.

In a release, Kongor Studios stated that more information surrounding the tournament will be revealed ‘in the coming weeks’. This will include details on how players can register and the tournament format.

The developer has already confirmed that all players are eligible to compete in the tournament and will feature open qualifiers.

Announcing an esports tournament is the latest chapter of Heroes of Newerth’s comeback plan. In January, the retired MOBA title announced its return before entering its alpha stage in May.

On October 22nd, Kongor Studios unveiled its open beta trailer. The trailer announced that the title’s open beta will take place on November 11th and is free to play for everyone.

Originally released in 2010 by S2 Games, the MOBA title was closed down in 2022 before a collaboration between Kongor Studios and Garena brought it back to life.

Heroes Of Newerth And Esports

With Heroes of Newerth shutting down three years ago, the MOBA title’s esports scene has also made somewhat of a return.

Throughout 2025, tournament organiser Paradise League has hosted several events with small prize pools.

According to Esports Charts, the most-watched Heroes of Newerth esports tournament is the HoN Tour World Finals 2017. Over the course of the event, it hit a peak of 15,256 viewers in addition to 148,696 hours watched.

The launch of a new esports tournament, combined with renewed interest in the MOBA title, could inject a new lease of life into the Heroes of Newerth scene.

With all players eligible alongside open qualifications, it will be interesting to see if the title can hold its own alongside the likes of Dota 2 and League of Legends.
