NetEase has officially revealed that Marvel Rivals Ignite, the hero shooter’s esports scene, will return for a 2026 circuit.
The developer’s announcement hints that changes will be coming to the new season, promising a ‘more professional’ and ‘mature’ competition format.
NetEase has kept the announcement intentionally vague, offering little insight into what to expect in the next year. However, the developer shared that ‘more information will be released soon’, which may take the form of a blog post or perhaps as part of a future Dev Vision update.
The announcement serves as a much-needed assurance of the future of Marvel Rivals esports, after months of speculation from the community. Theories run rampant as NetEase began making preparations for the next season in the final stretch of 2025, including opening a caster programme for Marvel Rivals esports in 2026.
How 2026 will differ from the previous year of Marvel Rivals Ignite remains to be seen. NetEase has previously stated that it will not consider introducing a change as drastic as a franchised league, similar to those used in scenes like Call of Duty or League of Legends.
Will Teams Return to Marvel Rivals?
The reveal comes after a prolonged period of silence from NetEase surrounding the future of the Marvel Rivals competitive ecosystem, following the conclusion of Marvel Rivals Ignite 2025 edition.
During this lull period, several of the world’s top teams, such as ENVY, announced a pause in operations within the scene. Others, like Sentinels, stated that a return to Marvel Rivals is possible if NetEase introduces more ‘incentives’ for organisations to commit long-term.
It remains to be seen whether the changes introduced will be enough to sway teams to return to Marvel Rivals. The announcement has caught the attention of several esports organisations, but only time will tell if 2026 proves to be just as successful a year as its inaugural season.
