A JACK Cleveland Casino poker dealer reportedly was fired and later arrested for allegedly repeatedly stealing from the gaming table at the Ohio gambling property.
Jason Saliba, 51, of North Olmsted, Ohio, was charged with 14 counts of violating casino gaming laws. He also was charged with theft.
Last week, he appeared in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, according to Cleveland.com, a regional news site.
An unnamed casino visitor tipped off a manager on September 6 that Saliba was stealing from the chips that players wagered, Cleveland.com reported.
Casino officials reviewed surveillance video and Saliba was fired from the casino on September 7.
Many thefts occurred in just a one-month period, authorities said. It appears the total amount stolen was less than $1K.
Prior Cheating
In an unrelated incident, a visitor at the same casino, Ellis Quinn, 62, of Memphis, Tenn., was arrested for allegedly cheating while playing craps in July, according to Cleveland.com. While cheating, he won $5,080, authorities said.
He allegedly placed additional bets on the winning number after the dice were rolled.
Authorities saw him violate the law while getting filmed on surveillance cameras at the casino.
Previously, Quinn was convicted of cheating at several casinos. Quinn had been banned from casinos in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and was sentenced after getting convicted.
Hard Rock Lot Site of Robbery
A robbery took place at the parking lot of Illinois’ Hard Rock Casino Rockford on Thursday.
An unnamed woman got her purse stolen. Inside, was an unspecified amount of cash.
The suspect fled from the scene, according to Illinois TV station WTVO. The victim wasn’t injured.
Suspect on the Lam
Local police continued to search for the suspect late this week. It’s likely officers will review surveillance video from the casino to help ID the suspect.
“We commend the quick response of our casino security team and the Rockford Police Department to an incident in our parking lot earlier today,” the casino said in a recent statement.
No weapons were involved, and no injuries were reported. We are confident that our advanced technology and strong collaboration with law enforcement will lead to the identification of the suspect and their vehicle, bringing this investigation to a swift resolution.”
