The Global Gaming League (GGL) has announced that it has raised $10m (~££7.8m) in its latest funding round.

The funding will be used to operate the gaming entertainment and media company’s league, which is described as a ‘gaming entertainment league’ featuring personalities from esports, traditional sports and entertainment.

According to a press release, the Global Gaming League has had over 250,000 signings for its inaugural season. Open to gamers worldwide, celebrities will draft a team of players to compete across a range of titles. Notably, those selected will earn a salary while representing a team.

The GGL will take place at The Campus by Vū in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 43,000-square-foot facility is capable of hosting television and film production along with a range of VIP experiences.

“There are over three billion gamers around the world but there’s still no centralised platform that gives everyday players the spotlight,” said Clinton Sparks, Founder and CEO of GGL.

“There’s currently no place for investors to have any meaningful return on a gaming investment, brands to consistently get an ROI with gaming, publishers to expand their IP to audiences, celebrities to have an authentic footprint in gaming and nothing set up for all gamers to build a career as a gamer, and have a chance to be recognised globally as true athletes until now.”

What is the Global Gaming League?

The GGL provides gamers with a chance to represent a team owned by a celebrity in addition to competing across several titles.

So far, rapper T-Pain, TikTok content creator Bryce Hall, old-school hip hop artist Flavor Flav and professional wrestler Ric Flair have been announced as team owners, with more being announced in the coming weeks.

In addition to the league, the recent funding will be used to launch the GGL Academy, an education initiative focused on using gaming to develop career pathways and scholarships within gaming, entertainment and technology industries.
