UFC 309: Jones v Miocic

People are getting tired of waiting on Jon Jones.

One of the biggest stories in MMA for the past year has been the potential Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall heavyweight title unification fight. Unfortunately, that fight doesn’t appear any closer to actually taking place. That is, of course, frustrating for Aspinall, who is now the longest reigning interim champion in UFC history, but it appears to also be growing tiresome for the fans.

On Monday morning, Jones re-opened the conversation around his controversial title reign when he responded to a few fans on Twitter, saying that he already told the UFC his plans “a long time ago,” and that he wouldn’t care if the UFC stripped him of the title. Unsurprisingly, this did not garner a great reaction from the fans who simply want to see the heavyweight champion unify his title against the interim heavyweight champion.

Check out the fan reaction to Jones’s latest comments.

Dear UFC, your product is a watered down, flaccid version of its former self. Your HW champ is a joke, your president a bloated trt clown.

Strip the duck.

Strip him, move on.

Jon gets off on the power of having control of something and everyone begging him for it.

Pretty obviously the UFC wants to keep Jon as champion and this fight floating out there as they negotiate their next broadcast deal. They have few stars and Jon is one of them. If they strip him, he’ll just walk away and they lose a big star and a potential big fight at MSG.

The UFC and Dana White need to just tell the public what is going on w this fight. They know whether the fight is going to take place or not. Just tell everyone. Geez.

The Jon stuff is kind of irrelevant. He’s done as a fighter and doesn’t interest me. I’m even losing interest in seeing the unification. Bring on Pereira at HW and the Volkov rematch. The UFC’s side of this is the issue. They had a 30 year old HW champion whose only loss in damn near a decade was blowing out his knee early in a fight….and he’s fought once in the 18 months since and has yet to get booked for a second fight since capturing the belt. Tom’s 32 now and the UFC continues to waste his career. If this continues on, he should honestly force his release, and go make better money getting knocked out in Boxing (since TKO Boxing looks DoA with Turki already pulling them from the Canelo-Crawford fight).
We rightfully knock PFL for crap like this, but people need to keep that same energy for the UFC when they do shit like this. Keeping your healthy HW phenom inactive for just about a year for no real reason is just idiocy, and extreme incompetence from everyone in the UFC and TKO who made that call. If Aspinall is part of it, well he’s making a bad call too.

UFC says, “screw it, we’ll pay you the $30 million you were asking for this fight.”
Jon says to UFC, “nope, now I’ll only fight for $50 million.”
Jon on social media, “I told them my plans!”

Feels like he kind of just said what we all already thought, he plans to hold the belt as long as he can so he can trade off its cache. He won’t risk a loss that tarnishes his “brand”, so he’ll eventually relinquish and retire.

Jon’s plan is to waste another year of everyone’s time. And then vacate the title or be stripped without fighting the big scary Tom Aspinall because he knows he will lose. And because the UFC isn’t gonna be willing to pay him his F-U money that he thinks he deserves. How about instead of continuing to waste everyone’s time, they strip him now so we, and more importantly Tom Aspinall and the HW division can move on? #StripJonJones

this amazing brand that I’ve created
It’s a little niche, but I admit that he has really cornered the market for finance beating, woman assaulting, hit and running, cheating, doped up, washed up ducks
