This is the UFC 318 live blog for Dan Ige vs. Patricio Pitbull, the main card featherweight bout Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Ige (19-9) has established himself as the man to beat if you want to prove you’re a contender at 145 pounds. He consistently goes the distance with high-level fighters (in his nine career losses, Ige has never been finished) and has turned away many would-be ranked fighters, including Sean Woodson, Andre Fili, and Nate Landwehr. “50K” is the perfect test to see how much Pitball has left in the tank.
A few weeks past his 38th birthday, Pitbull (36-8) needs a bounce-back performance after a UFC debut that left his supporters disappointed and confused. The former two-division Bellator champion failed to impress against Yair Rodriguez and he now has just one win in his past four fights. If Pitbull is to keep his hopes of challenging for a UFC title alive, he has to get past Ige first.
