VCT China has announced that today’s Stage 2 match between Nova Esports and XLG Esports has been postponed due to “extreme weather conditions”.
Although not explicitly stated in the official announcement, the decision is likely linked to the threat of Typhoon Co-May, which has caused relocations and transport restrictions in VCT China’s host city, Shanghai.
Co-May is the eighth tropical storm to hit China this year. The typhoon made landfall in the eastern province of Zhejiang earlier today, prompting the evacuation of over 10,500 residents. In anticipation of additional landfalls closer to Shanghai, the city relocated 280,000 residents.
The Regular Season match between Group Omega’s current first place (XLG) and last place (Nova) was originally scheduled for today at 12 pm BST. Instead, the best-of-three (BO3) series will take place tomorrow at 10 am BST prior to the Group Alpha match between EDward Gaming (EDG) and JD Gaming.
The two face-offs will kick off the final week of VCT China’s Stage 2 Group Stage, which will conclude with a much-anticipated series between Bilibili Gaming and 2024 Champions winner EDG on August 3rd.
What’s at Stake During VCT China Stage 2
While all Group Stage games have been held at the VCT China Arena in Shanghai, the league will head to the Chongqing Science Hall for the Playoffs from August 20th-24th.
A double-elimination bracket, featuring the top four teams from both groups, will then determine who qualifies for the VCT season finale, VALORANT Champions 2025.
As with all four VCT regions (China, EMEA, Americas, Pacific), only the best two teams from the Stage 2 competitions directly secure a slot at the largest VALORANT international tournament of the year.
However, teams that have consistently shown good performances throughout the 2025 season can also qualify for Champions through a regional VCT Points leaderboard.
