European esports organisation G2 Esports celebrated its competitive break to pull a prank on fans ahead of the upcoming 2025 LEC Summer Split campaign.
In classic G2 Esports fashion, League of Legends’ ‘Kings of Europe’ baited the entire League of Legends community with a surprising roster change, stating that top laner Sergen ‘BrokenBlade‘ Çelik and jungler Rudy ‘SkewMond‘ Semaan would swap roles.
“Following our MSI and EWC results, we have decided to make some changes within the team,” read the post on G2 Esports’ official X channel.
“While our core roster remains the same, for Week 1 of the LEC Summer Split, we will be trialling a top-jungle role swap, with SkewMond moving to top lane and BrokenBlade switching to jungle.”
The post took several people — including major esports personalities such as Laure ‘Bulii’ Valée, Finnish content creator Dumbs and professional player Erik ‘Treatz’ Wessén — by surprise.
However, the community soon spotted that G2 would not be playing in the first week of action, alongside Spring champions Movistar KOI.
The bait roster change announcement worked out perfectly for G2, an organisation known for its humour and entertainment value outside of competitions. The post has already totalled more than 500,000 views in less than two hours, with 6,000 likes at the time of writing.
BrokenBlade in the Jungle?
G2’s post continued: “With this change, we aim to create a more versatile roster structure based on shared role knowledge. Those who pay close attention to solo queue might have noticed that BrokenBlade has already been practicing his jungle matchups with promising results; combined with scrim data, we are confident that this is the best move for the long-term success of the team.”
Coincidence or not, according to BrokenBlade’s solo queue match history, the top laner has indeed played several games as a jungler. The top laner has been spotted on the rift playing Jarvan IV, Lee Sin, Vi, Wukong and Nocturne over the past week.
Despite a disappointing Mid-Season Invitational run, G2 ended the international journey on a strong note, which culminated in an impressive win at EWC against the Chinese team BiliBili Gaming. G2 Esports will be returning to the LEC stage on Saturday, August 9th, facing Team Heretics.
