Nintendo has announced the release of Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch 2 in the latest edition of Nintendo Partner Direct.

The popular battle royale title will be landing on the platform on August 5th, just two months after the console’s global launch.

“Squad up with Apex Legends! Master an ever-growing roster of legendary characters and experience strategic squad play in the game, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 Aug 5th,” the official announcement stated.

To celebrate the occasion, players will be able to log into the game to get the Legendary Pathfinder skin ‘P.A.T.H as a free reward until September 16th.

While Apex Legends was already playable on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility, it used to have performance issues. However, with the upcoming native version, players can expect “enhanced resolution and smoother performance,” according to Nintendo.

Will there be an esports scene for Switch 2 Apex Legends?

So far, no official events have been announced for the Switch version of Apex Legends. As such, players have instead participated in community-based tournaments.

That said, it’s not impossible for the publisher to organise a few official tournaments every year, especially with the game now supported natively on Switch 2.

Apex Legends Season 26 coming soon

The title will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 the same day as Season 26, which will introduce a permanent new mode named Wildcard, passive gear type called Amps, and the Accolades system.

“The new season kicks off with Wildcard — the new permanent mode with faster gameplay, loot explosions, and second chances to help you clutch that win,” Respawn revealed.

Moreover, legend reworks for Caustic and Bangalore, along with weapon changes for Hop-Ups and Elite RE-45 will also make its way into the game.
