After about two months away from the internet,  Joseph ‘Mang0’ Marquez has announced a return to streaming on Twitch.

Earlier in June, Mang0 was banned from multiple tournaments after incidents with female content creators while intoxicated on Ludwig Ahgren‘s stream. Mang0 then promised to focus on fixing his ongoing drinking problem.

After Mang0 was forced to face his alcoholism earlier this summer, some fans offered support and pleas for his return while others commended him for stepping away from Smash to get help. Now, just a few weeks later, Mang0 is looking to start streaming again after having ‘heart to hearts’ with people he has wronged along the way.

“I wanted to make amends to the best of my ability,” Mang0 tweeted on X. “I feel the final step is to just start streaming and rebuilding my relationship with my audience.”

According to Mang0, his early return is due to boredom. He hasn’t been drinking the past two months and feels like a ‘bum’ after not working during that time. For now, he won’t be using X too often and wants to focus on content creation, where he plans to share his ongoing recovery journey and listen to fans with similar addictions.

Will Mang0 Return to Melee?

It’s possible that Mang0 may return to competitive Melee, but he first wants to focus on stremaing.

Mang0 added at the end of his tweet that if he returns, he plans to host a Super Smash Bros. Melee event in the future that supports women in the scene ‘to help promote safety,’ possibly working with Smash Sisters.

While the Smash community seemed generally open to Mang0’s return, some people expressed frustration with him helping Smash Sisters, which is known for supporting trans players.

Despite some expected pushback, there was a lot of support in the replies and hopes that Mang0 will overcome his alcohol addiction and compete once again.
