Valve has released a small update to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), refreshing all of the materials on its Ancient map to the latest shaders for the FPS title.
In addition to the new shaders, the developer and publisher introduced a night-time version of the map available in Casual and Deathmatch modes.
The shader updates to Ancient weren’t the only change to the Active Duty map. Valve has also changed an angle that no longer allows players to hold A Main from Temple. As a result, players will need to reposition in order to keep control of the area.
Elsewhere, the update has removed a delay for players who use Alt+Tab from a 4:3 resolution used in-game to a 16:9 resolution used on a desktop.
Various animation changes have also arrived as part of CS2’s August 14th update. The deploy animations for the AWP, M4A4, and the M4A1-S have been improved, along with the removal of the deploy inspect delay.
For esports, the stickers from the BLAST.tv Austin Major have gone on sale, with players receiving a 75% discount when purchasing a capsule containing various stickers from players and organisations that competed at the event.
Community Reaction
Following the August 14th update, the CS2 community has been quick to react to the changes, with many approving of the adjustments to Ancient.
“Great touch to maps!,” said one fan. “Long-awaited and much wanted. Will refresh the way we see the game.”
While the Ancient changes headlined the update, other members of the community have continued to show there is a high demand for Cache to return to the Active Duty map pool. “Can we also remove D2 for Cache?” asked another player.
The return of Cache remains a hot topic of conversation, with many wanting Mirage removed in favour of the map that was last seen six years ago.
