Valve has released the latest small update to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), applying further changes to its Ancient map.
After applying new shaders in a previous update, the developer of the FPS title has changed the map’s daytime soundscape and stopped items from getting stuck behind rubble on the T side of the B site.
Audio adjustments and rubble fixes weren’t the only changes to the Active Duty map. Valve has also changed the roof decorations on the house near the CT spawn, along with restoring the ability to wallbang the plywood located in the cave.
Elsewhere, various fixes affecting fullscreen windowed mode have been applied, enabling players to fill their screen regardless of its size. The update also introduced “various stability fixes,” designed to ensure a smooth gameplay experience is maintained.
The August 18th update is the second CS2 update to release in the past week. On August 14th, Valve upgraded Ancient to the latest shaders, alongside releasing a night-time version of the map and several animation adjustments.
It’s expected to be the final update before the title heads to the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where 16 teams are competing for a share of a $1.25m (~£924,581) prize pool.
Community Reaction
Due to the nature of the update, the adjustments to Ancient aren’t expected to have a lasting impact on the competitive meta.
The ability to shoot through the plywood in cave opens the door for players looking to inflict damage while hidden behind cover.
Despite Valve’s continued efforts to optimise CS2, fans are continuing to demand an improved anti-cheat to prevent hackers from negatively impacting matches. “Anti-cheat?” asked one fan.
Alongside anti-cheat improvements, several members of the community are continuing to express their desire for Cache to return to Active Duty.
