TL;DR

  • Battlefield 6 is the latest title in EA’s first-person shooter franchise
  • EA has set Battlefield 6’s release date for October 10, 2025
  • The open beta recently wrapped up, prompting some players to express disappointment regarding map size in Battlefield 6.
  • Though the maps in the open beta weren’t as large as the maps in previous Battlefield iterations, Battlefield developers have apparently told leaker CharlieIntel that bigger maps will be available at launch.
  • Upon release, Battlefield 6 will have nine maps in total, so there’s a lot of potential for varied map sizes across each location.

Battlefield 6 is less than two months from release, and the open beta has introduced a plethora of players to the large-scale FPS franchise throughout August. One of the biggest points of discussion among fans relates to map size, as Battlefield is known far and wide for its massive maps that offer destructible buildings and a variety of military vehicles.

Following the beta, we’re taking a closer look at the maps we’ve seen so far, along with whether they’re big enough to carry on the Battlefield legacy.

Multiple open beta tests took place for Battlefield 6 this August, but the final session was between August 14 and 17. Though there aren’t any more open beta tests planned, the launch of Battlefield 6 is less than two months away on October 10, 2025.

The open beta encouraged a debate in online spaces surrounding the size of maps in Battlefield 6, with some fans expressing that they aren’t quite big enough.

Nine maps will be released alongside Battlefield 6 in October, but we only had a chance to test four during the open beta. The beta included Liberation Peak, Empire State, Iberian Offensive, and Siege of Cairo.

While Liberation Peak offers a big stretch of land for large-scale combat, Siege of Cairo and Iberian Offensive both primarily consist of buildings to explore and destroy. The latter two maps aren’t particularly big, but city locations in Battlefield games are often on the smaller side. Unfortunately, none of the BF6 beta maps were as big as something like Bandar Desert in Battlefield 3.

We found that the new maps felt small in large-scale battle game modes. Tight corridors are fun to explore in Battlefield, so smaller doesn’t necessarily mean worse, but there’s no denying that the locations we’ve visited up until this point aren’t particularly big.

How are fans reacting to Battlefield 6’s maps?

Many fans have taken to social media to share their first impressions about the Battlefield 6 open beta. While many comments have echoed displeasure at the map sizes, some notable influencers have taken a different stance.

One YouTuber named The Act Man posted on X that he liked the Battlefield 6 beta, even though the maps weren’t as big as in previous Battlefield titles. The Act Man said that the beta was enjoyable, while also acknowledging that the maps were more focused on tight gameplay in smaller corridors.

Everybody has their own opinion, and while we would have preferred that the Battlefield 6 beta show off its biggest maps, it looks like the devs may be saving the best for launch day.

Will the Battlefield 6 devs listen to fan feedback?

Battlefield thrives in part due to its larger maps, as other FPS games focus on smaller spots to explore. Battlefield 6 could still be successful without a lineup of sprawling maps, but luckily, it looks like the developers have acknowledged that they need larger locations at launch.

According to a reliable X leaker, CharlieIntel, the BF6 devs were taking down notes on player feedback during August’s beta, even going so far as to say that the map lineup will feature larger locations at launch in an interview with the prominent leaker. This is what the devs had to say, according to CharlieIntel:

“We have a lot of variety in this package from modes, from maps, from locations, from size, from different types of play styles.”

CharlieIntel explained that the devs specifically conveyed that Battlefield 6 will release with larger maps. If this information is accurate, then Battlefield 6 might have the perfect mix of map sizes.

Conclusion

Even though the maps we explored in the Battlefield 6 beta were smaller than expected, they may be preferable for newer fans accustomed to smaller locations in other first-person shooters like Call of Duty and Siege X.

New maps introduced at launch might have the larger battlefields that fans seek, offering a mix of small, medium, and large maps in the same game. Battlefield 6 is one of the biggest titles of 2025, which is why various map sizes are essential for it to appeal to a wider audience while still keeping in the spirit of Battlefield.
