The B3 Network, a Layer‑3 web3 protocol built by ex‑Coinbase engineers, has launched a dedicated gaming chain on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) EVM sidechain.
This move expands B3’s vision beyond its recent venture into hardware—a ‘self‑destructing’ gaming PC dubbed the B3PC, designed with crypto-specific safeguards to digitally erase sensitive data.
Originally an appchain on Ethereum’s Base, B3 partnered with XRPL Commons to create the XRPL Gamechain, a sidechain designed to increase utility and user engagement.
From Spectator to Earner: XRP Becomes the Prize
The project is launching with Xcade, a mobile arcade currently on testnet featuring five hyper-casual games built for short, fast-paced sessions.
This approach targets both casual gamers and those new to cryptocurrency.
NPC Labs (developers of the B3 Network) co-founder Viktoriya Hying explained in a statement to Decrypt. “Through our own research conducted when we were at Coinbase, the team realised the most successful way to have users participate and engage more meaningfully on-chain is through creating fun, frictionless, and novel experiences.”
What makes this development even more interesting is the integration of XRP token rewards.
Leveraging the XRPL EVM sidechain, players can earn XRP through tournaments, challenges, and game nights. This moves XRP beyond its traditional function as a store of value and transforms it into an active component of gameplay.
The XRPL Gamechain operates as a separate sidechain, utilising the XRP Ledger’s strengths without burdening the main network.
This architecture allows the platform to scale gaming activity without compromising performance, and it aligns with B3’s broader ambition to expand its footprint after already onboarding more than 8.5m wallets and supporting over 100 games on Base.
The full version of the XRPL Gamechain and the Xcade arcade is scheduled for release later this fall.
