In the second quarter of 2025, licensed gambling businesses in Sweden made SEK 7bn (~£552m), a 1.9% increase over the same period in 2024.

Turnover is determined by subtracting players’ stakes from their winnings. The quarterly findings coincide with the ongoing development of Sweden’s gambling industry under laws that have been in effect since 2019.

At the same time, the nation’s self-exclusion programme has seen a 2.2% increase in users, reaching almost 128,000.

Sector Performance and Self-Exclusion Data

The total yearly turnover of the Swedish gambling market in 2024 was SEK 27.848bn (£2.196bn), or SEK 3,325 (£262.21) per resident over the age of 18, or roughly 0.9% of the population’s disposable income.

When the Q2 2025 numbers are broken down by sector, state lottery and slots contributed SEK 1.423bn (£112m) to the total, while commercial online gaming and betting brought in SEK 4.632bn (£365m).

Due to the closure of physical casino operations earlier in 2025, state casino operations, mainly through Casino Cosmopol, only generated SEK 8m (£630,904) in revenue.

Lotteries and public games brought in SEK 846m (£66m), hall bingo brought in SEK 49m (£3m), and land-based commercial gaming brought in SEK 63m (£4m) for the quarter.

Nearly 128,000 people are currently covered by the self-exclusion programme Spelpaus, which enables users to bar themselves from all gambling operators with a Swedish license.

This is a quarterly increase of 2.2% and maintains the consistent growth trend seen since the program’s inception in 2019.

The service covers every type of gambling that is permitted in Sweden, including slots, online casinos, sports betting, bingo, lotteries, and physical gambling establishments.

Online gaming and betting continue to be the biggest source of revenue in Sweden’s regulated gambling market, as evidenced by the Q2 results.

The concurrent rise in self-exclusion registrations demonstrates continued attempts in the Swedish regulatory framework to strike a balance between market expansion and responsible gaming policies.
