Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and JEG Esports have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop esports training programmes in the country.
The agreement also includes collaborating to organise local and international esports tournaments.
According to a LinkedIn post, the collaboration also includes launching campaigns to raise awareness of esports as a growing economic sector for Jordan’s youth population. The creation of national platforms to operate digital and in-person events was also mentioned.
The signing of the MoU forms part of the Jordanian National Strategy for Games and Esports running until 2027. The initiative aims to establish Jordan as ‘a regional and international hub for game development and esports.’
“JEG Esports will leverage its 15+ years of experience in organising tournaments and nurturing Jordanian talent to support the national digital economy and strengthen Jordan’s position as a regional hub for esports and related technologies,” said Mohammed Kanakri, Founder and CEO of JEG Esports.
The programmes will utilise various technologies, such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality, to assist the growth of esports within Jordan.
Alongside esports, the agreement also includes testing and evaluating new games and unreleased digital applications.
The Growth Of Esports In Jordan
In recent years, the esports industry in Jordan has continued to grow, with various stakeholders embarking on the creation of dedicated facilities.
In 2020, FATE Esports joined forces with telecommunications firm Orange to open a gaming hub with the aim of scouting undiscovered esports talent in the country.
In 2024, True Gamers partnered with RizeUp Sports Complex to open an esports venue in Amman that has played host to various grassroots esports tournaments.
The MoU between JEG Esports and the Ministry is the next step for Jordan to continue developing its local esports industry, as it looks to implement structure and professionalism within the Middle East.
