Police scanners in Mashantucket, CT, report that a male is holding a female hostage on the 16th floor of a hotel tower at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The tribal casino owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is reportedly being swarmed with law enforcement and first responders. A SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team is also said to be on the scene.
Foxwoods is located 75 air miles southwest of Boston and 115 miles northeast of Midtown Manhattan.
We currently have a male who has a female locked in a hotel room with a firearm,ā the Connecticut State Police dispatch was heard over the scanner in calling officers to the tribal casino.
The incident is reportedly occurring in the Fox Tower in room 16-101. Police say the man inside the room is ārefusing to open the door.ā
Isolated IncidentĀ
There is seemingly no threat to the rest of the resort, as the Foxwoods social channels have not provided an update on the police response. Just minutes ago, the casino shared a photo of a woman playing a slot machine with the caption, āThis weekās vibe? All about that jackpot glow.ā
As the matter is ongoing, there is little information regarding what led to the man allegedly holding the woman hostage inside the Fox Tower. Connecticut State Police officials said only that theyāre assisting Foxwoods with āan incidentā this Monday morning.
Since Foxwoods is located on sovereign territory owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, law enforcement matters are typically handled by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department. In more serious crime situations that could warrant federal or state charges, outside law enforcement agencies are called in to assist.
The Foxwoods Resort Casino remains open for business as usual despite the ongoing police activity. However, sections of the Fox Tower are being cordoned off as officers and the SWAT team attempt to resolve the hostage situation.
Foxwoods is one of the largest resort casinoās in the United States. Along with its hotels, the property has 175,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, a retail Tanger Outlets shopping mall, and a newly opened Great Wolf Lodge.
As for gaming, Foxwoodsā five casino spaces collectively offer over 3,200 slot machines, 175 live dealer table games, poker and bingo rooms, and a DraftKings Sportsbook.Ā Ā
