The Evolution Championship Series (Evo) has announced an upcoming presentation on December 6th.

The Evo 2026 Announcement Show will share further details about next year’s tournaments, including Evo 2026, Evo Japan 2026 and the 2026 Evo Awards.

Evo is currently the largest fighting game event there is, featuring tournaments for Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and more. It recently expanded beyond Las Vegas and Japan to have tournaments in France and Singapore.

Now, the FGC is wondering what further changes are in store for next year.

Evo 2026 Could Be Very Different After Qiddiya Acquisition

It’s currently unknown what the December announcement will have, but the FGC is already making a few guesses. Some wonder if the lineup is expanding to include new titles like Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls or old favourites like Dragon Ball FighterZ. Maybe the return of Super Smash Bros.?

However, others in the FGC have become weary since Evo’s parent company, RTS, was acquired by Qiddiya, a Saudi Arabian megaproject that has also contributed to events like the Esports World Cup. The esports community as a whole has been concerned with Saudi Arabia’s continued expansion and control of the esports industry.

Despite the concern, this acquisition is likely to result in significant expansion for Evo next year.

“This milestone paves the way for setting new heights in the evolution of Evo toward achieving the aspirations of the fighting game community,” Quiddiya Chief Strategy OfficerMuhannad Aldawood, said on LinkedIn.

The announcement could start revealing some of these moves, including a larger lineup or possibly even more Evo locations. While Tekken pro Arslan Ash has raised concerns about the continued expansion of Evo watering down its prestige, an official circuit leading to Evo in Las Vegas – rather than individual events – could actually increase the competitiveness and importance of winning Evo 2026.
