Geography-based guessing game GeoGuessr has unveiled its roadmap for the 2026 esports season.
Running from January to September, the esports circuit for the title will culminate with the GeoGuessr World Championship 2026, taking place from September 2nd to 5th in Berlin, Germany.
Unveiled on December 3rd, 2025, the GeoGuessr esports circuit consists of three pillars, starting with regional World Leagues running from January to June. The GeoGuessr 2026 World League is split into EMEA, Americas, and APAC, with each region competing separately.
The winner of each division will be crowned the regional champion. 22 players from last season will return, alongside 22 other players who competed in the 2025 World League qualifier.
The 2026 World League will scrap the round-robin format and adopt a Swiss system, with points awarded to the top performers. Points earned during the World League will determine the 16 players who secure direct qualification to the World Finals and those who qualify for the Play-Ins.
Play-Ins act as a last-chance qualifier for players who didn’t earn qualification to the World Finals through the World League. The mixed-region tournament decides the remaining players for the season-ending World Finals.
GeoGuessr World Championship 2026 Location
The 2026 edition of the GeoGuessr World Championship heads to Berlin’s Tempodrom. The venue, which opened in 1980, can seat up to 3,500 people.
“This won’t just be a GeoGuessr tournament,” revealed GeoGuessr in an announcement video. “It will be a festival packed with a lot of great things.” In addition to the tournament, the World Finals will feature “unique side activities” along with community events and workshops.
Since hosting its first World Cup in 2023, GeoGuessr’s esports scene has continued to grow at an impressive rate. 2025’s World Cup became the title’s most-watched tournament in history, peaking at over 360,000 viewers.
Elsewhere, the title has attracted new partners to support its esports efforts. For example, gaming web browser Opera GX became the official browser of 2025’s World Championship.
