League of Legends named most popular game in Discord 2025 review

Communication platform Discord has named League of Legends the most popular game of the year in its newly released year-in-review, Discord Checkpoint.

According to the blog post made by the company, Riot Games’ MOBA title was rated as one of the three top games of 2025, alongside Rematch, chosen as the breakout hit, and R.E.P.O., the biggest indie title.

League of Legends doesn’t need much of an introduction. Released in 2009, the free-to-play MOBA game has been one of the most played games over the past 16 years, with an active user base of over 20m monthly.

If League of Legends represents one of the longest-running game titles, then Rematch is the exact opposite. Developed by Slocap and released on June 19th, the simple design, rules of the game, and the single-player control allowed it to find its own unique positioning in the football genre, generally dominated by Psyonix’s Rocket League and EA SPORTS FC.

Discord also rated the top three communities, which included PvP shooter Marvel Rivals, Minecraft, and Genshin Impact. Despite the decreasing player count compared to 2024, the game developed by NetEase Games has stayed somewhat consistent in the past few months, signalling that its core audience remains engaged.

Taking notes from other global platforms like Spotify and YouTube, Discord will allow its users to get a recap feature of their own this year, during the 10th anniversary of the company.

Discord Checkpoint will give you all the data and insights on your activity on the platform, including the number of messages sent, time spent on voice chat, which friends you spent the most time with, and even your most-used servers.

The recaps began rolling out on December 4th and will be available to users who have the latest version of the app and have the “Use data to personalise my Discord experience” setting enabled.

Upon receiving your checkpoint, Discord will match you with one of 10 different checkpoint cards, each coming with a different avatar decoration. The Discord Checkpoint will be available until January 15th, 2026.
