North American esports organisation DarkZero Esports has acquired the esports assets of NRG for an undisclosed fee.

Don Kim, the CEO of DarkZero Esports, will assume the role of NRG CEO. Meanwhile, NRG’s Founder, Andy Miller, will be involved as an advisor to support the transition and provide guidance.

According to the release, all of NRG’s esports teams will still operate under the NRG moniker. Moreover, its current esports rosters will remain intact, alongside ‘the majority’ of NRG’s staff.

Founded in 2015, NRG currently has prominent rosters in VALORANT, League of Legends, Rocket League and Counter-Strike 2, among others. This year, the North American brand notably won the RLCS 2025 World Championship and VALORANT Champions 2025. Alongside that, NRG recently competed in the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025.

NRG’s Expansion

Speaking to Esports Insider, NRG’s new CEO also highlighted that DarkZero’s existing teams will now compete under the NRG banner.

As of this writing, this includes DarkZero’s Rainbow Six Siege team, which has competed at three international events this year — the Six Invitational 2025, RE:L0;AD 2025 and the Esports World Cup. The purchase will see NRG expand into the Rainbow Six esports ecosystem for the first time.

The other team in question is DarkZero’s North American tier-two League of Legends division, which is via a collaboration between Maryville University and Dragonsteel. It has yet to be announced if this partnership will continue into 2026.

Under the new structure, NRG aims to maintain its current competitive footprint while expanding into new esports titles and accelerating its marketing efforts.

Kim told Esports Insider: “We believe the NRG brand is phenomenal, and with the additional teams and our plans for expansion, we can grow to be one of the largest esports brands in the world.”

Kim also highlighted that discussions to purchase NRG’s esports assets commenced after DarkZero released a series of videos in September expressing its interest in expanding. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed by NRG’s new CEO.

In a press release, Andy Miller, Founder of NRG, stated: “NRG has always been about the fans, the players, and the people behind the scenes who built something special together.

“I have full confidence in DarkZero’s leadership and their commitment to honouring what makes NRG great while building for the future. Thank you to our #NRGFAM for the unwavering support over the years. I encourage you to stay engaged and excited as this next chapter begins.”
