This is the UFC 309 live blog for Viviane Araujo vs. Karine Silva, the main card flyweight fight this Saturday in New York.
Currently No. 12 at 125 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, the veteran Araujo finds herself needing to bust a slump as she’s won just two of her past six fights. She lost a unanimous decision to the fast-rising Natalia Silva in her most recent outing this past February. That added to a list of losses against some of the best fighters in the division as she also dropped decisions to Alexa Grasso, Amanda Ribas, and Katlyn Cerminara.
Araujo rarely gets finished, but that resilience will be put to the test against Karine Silva, one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. Silva’s first 18 wins all came inside the distance and she only saw that streak snapped this past April when she won a unanimous decision over Ariane da Silva. Currently 4-0 in the UFC, Silva can take Araujo’s number with another impressive performance.
